There was an odd afternoon once I found this feather And then another And then a beak And then the bird it belonged to And silent lurking I sought another And then another But I found neither I recovered nothing Nothing greater, nothing lesser Just… Nothing greater, nothing lesser Just… When, at once, the morning came I arose, numb, nothing’d changed I coughed once, scratched and bathed And absorbed another day Sparks they flicker, fires rage Winds do whisper, lips evade Bleeding days As time escapes Nothing greater, nothing lesser Just… Nothing greater, nothing lesser Just… There was an odd afternoon once I found this feather And then another… And then another… And then another… 11.10.09

The Cough 03:12
The cough sounds worse today Her hair soft, burgundy The eyes she turns away Harbor tranquillity Satisfy my simplest needs Shed a warmth on everything Liquid blue and calming She shakes it off again Distracts herself with talking Words she rarely means Of nothingness and bigger things She thinks it’s something in between That’s what she’s led me to believe Keeps a bag for when it’s time to leave Haven’t known a sweeter sound Than her feet rustling the sheets around When she awakes before I do And needs me out of slumber too We’ll make a tape of it The movement of her limbs So when time comes t’ get out of bed I’ll be waking up to her instead Of some car alarms pulsatin’ And traffic busy, bustlin’ I’ll try my hardest to make do Or else dream of coughing too 11.21.07

Either it’s Winter Or it’s coming or it’s going With its weeks imbued with Snow and wind and shutting in Whether it’s Autumn Or an open door to Summer I accept there’s just another Storm around the corner But me, I hunker down As the cold solstice surrounds I fill my world with sounds That bounce and tangle I weather the weekend Absord the weeks frozen and formless Only seven days regardless Of the endless drudgery And she leaves the lights on Digs my spot out in the driveway She can’t accept that this is my way To endure this cruel fate Me, I hunker down As the cold solstice surrounds I fill my world with sounds That bounce and tangle Me, I hunker down As the cold solstice surrounds I fill my world with sounds That bounce and tangle 6.04.10

Two Fathoms 03:22
I came in with a comet; left with one too Encircled with sweet things; memories of you As Clara’s piano painted the room They failed to refill this waning moon 2.21.09

She and I 02:50
She and I, we clawed and climbed To glimpse a nondescript skyline A town of trees, some powerlines A white sun barely moving She and I were terrorized By omnipresent dragonflies We froze in silence, mystified By the buzzing wings between us She and I, we sought to find The reason held within the rhyme Some deeper meaning trapped inside The verses we sat singing She and I lost track of time Carving circles in our minds The day dissolving, we resigned Ourselves to simply loving 6.07.10

We Kissed... 06:28
We kissed extensively amid the smoldering evergreens Your body next to me, feeling through ecstasy As ashen branches break, and wind shakes the needles free I wake before the sun rises up above our nest of trees In darkness doubt attacks and finds me struggling With an intersection of paths; which one will it be An ill-timed judgment lapse, has me flipping a coin to see Left, right, forwards or back to our safe retreat And rain, just in time, appears and washes over me Over us I mean as our blackened lungs fight to breathe 2.28.07
